Frequently Asked Questions
This page addresses some FAQ that I generally get as a Travel Advisor. Use the contact me page or send me an email if you still have some unanswered questions.
Can you really match the prices I see on Expedia or other sites?
Yes! In the vast majority of cases, I can match or even beat the rates you see on major booking engines for the exact same itinerary. If you find a lower price, I simply ask for a "documented, apples-to-apples" quote so I can verify the details with my partners.
What does "Apples-to-Apples" mean?
To ensure we are looking at the same value, the comparison must be identical in every way. Travel pricing is complex, and "discount" sites often hide costs or use restricted categories. For a price match, the following must be identical:
-
The Exact Dates: Travel dates and duration must be the same.
-
Room/Cabin Category: The specific view, bed configuration, and "club level" access must match. (e.g., an "Ocean View" is not the same as a "Partial Ocean View").
-
Cancellation Policy: We must compare "Fully Refundable" to "Fully Refundable." Discount sites often show lower prices for "Non-Refundable" rates which carry high risk.
-
Included Amenities: My quotes often include taxes, resort fees, transfers, and breakfast. Many online sites wait until the very last checkout screen to add these fees.
-
Flight Class: For airfare, the "Basic Economy" rates (no bags, no seat selection) cannot be compared to "Standard Economy" or "Business" classes.
Why are some online prices excluded?
I am committed to getting you the best value, but I cannot match:
-
Member-Only or "Mobile-Only" Rates: These are often loss-leaders used to gather data or require a paid subscription.
-
Opaque Bookings: Sites where you don't know the name of the hotel until after you pay.
-
Expired or "Ghost" Rates: Prices that are cached on a search engine but are no longer available for actual booking when verified.
The Collective Advantage: Why a "Match" with me is actually a "Win"
Even when the price is identical to Expedia, booking through The ASB Collective gives you more:
-
Direct Advocacy: If a flight is canceled or a resort has an issue, you call me, not a 1-800 number with a two-hour wait.
-
VIP Status: My relationships with brands like AmaWaterways and Viking mean you arrive as a "VIP guest," often resulting in better room placement and personalized touches that a computer-generated booking cannot provide.
-
No Hidden Fees: You’ll never be surprised by a "service fee" at check-in that wasn't in your initial quote.

Why do you charge a professional planning fee?
My planning fee covers the time, research, and global expertise required to architect a custom journey tailored specifically to you. While many online sites are incentivized to sell specific high-commission products, my fee ensures that I am working solely in your best interest. It allows me to provide unbiased recommendations, handle complex logistical puzzles, and provide dedicated support before, during, and after your trip—a level of care that a standard booking commission simply doesn't cover.
